Unmasking fault tolerance: quantifying deterministic recovery dynamics in probabilistic environments

چکیده

English) The present thesis focuses on distributed systems operating under probabilistic influences like faults. How well can such systems provide their service under the effects of faults? How well can they recover from faults? The present thesis introduces with limiting window availability a suitable measure to answer such questions, and presents a method for its computation. For the computation, the transition models of the systems are constructed, which are exponential in the size of the constituting system models. This is known as state space explosion. Combining decomposition and lumping — methods for state space reduction from the domain of model checking — allows to dampen the state space explosion.

Node Covering, Error Correcting Codes and Multiprocessors with Very High Average Fault Tolerance

Structural fault tolerance (SFT) is the ability of a multiprocessor to reconfigure around faulty processors or links in order to preserve its original processor interconnection structure. In this paper, we focus on the design of SFT multiprocessors that have low switch and link overheads, but can tolerate a very large number of processor faults on the average. Most previous work has concentrate...

A Fully Scalable Parallel Algorithm for Solving Elliptic Partial Differential Equations

A comparison is made between the probabilistic domain decomposition (DD) method and a certain deterministic DD method for solving linear elliptic boundary-value problems. Since in the deterministic approach the CPU time is affected by intercommunications among the processors, it turns out that the probabilistic method performs better, especially when the number of subdomains (hence, of processo...

TransMR: Data-Centric Programming Beyond Data Parallelism

MapReduce and related data-centric programming models have proven to be effective for a variety of large-scale distributed computations, in particular, those that manifest data parallelism. The fault-tolerance model underlying these programming environments relies on deterministic replay, which makes data-sharing (side-effects) across computations harder to support. This significantly limits th...

Accurate Fault Classification of Transmission Line Using Wavelet Transform and Probabilistic Neural Network

Fault classification in distance protection of transmission lines, with considering the wide variation in the fault operating conditions, has been very challenging task. This paper presents a probabilistic neural network (PNN) and new feature selection technique for fault classification in transmission lines. Initially, wavelet transform is used for feature extraction from half cycle of post-fa...

A Deterministic Approach for Diagnosis Test Generation

The main purpose of the diagnosis test pattern generation is to give the enough information for fault diagnosis during the manufacturing time. The most of the test generation methods are simulation based and have probabilistic nature. In this paper I propose the deterministic approach, which guarantees fault distinguishability. Algorithm is single stuck-at fault based. I perform some optimizati...
